Massage Techniques – 3 Methods That Will Remove Your Stress

February 19th, 2010 Tess Rainey No comments

This article discusses various massage techniques and 3 methods that will remove your stress. Any one of the options below will help melt away the stress and tension you might be feeling.

1. Swedish Massage: Effleurage, friction, petrissage, tapottement, and vibration make up Swedish massage techniques. Effleurage is long sweeping strokes given from either the padded parts of your fingertips or the palm of your hand.

Friction is a technique that helps to relax muscles while petrissage is the squeezing and kneading of the muscles. Rhythmic hitting or chopping, tapottement, helps to energize different areas of the body and the final technique, vibration, is used to help break up and loosen muscles.

2. Deep Tissue: Deep tissue massage techniques are slow and focused and are designed to relieve muscle tension and alleviate inflammation which can help joint pain. It uses some of the same techniques as Swedish massage, but with some variations that work each muscle more thoroughly; it can be fairly intense.

While this type of massage should not be painful, it may cause some discomfort at first. 24 hours after receiving the massage you should start to feel the benefits of this therapeutic massage technique.

3. Hot Stone: Calm and relaxing, hot stone massages are the complete opposite of a deep tissue massage as they focus purely on enjoyment and relaxation.

Each massage will start by using traditional Swedish massage techniques followed by hot stones placed upon a person's back and extremities. Each stone helps draw out tension in a person's muscles and can be very relaxing as the stones take away the stress from the body.

In this article we discussed massage techniques and 3 methods that will remove your stress. While Swedish massage techniques are the most popular, deep tissue and hot stone massages provide excellent benefits and should also be given a try especially if you are experiencing muscle tension or pain.

Saints Shock Colts To Win Superbowl

February 19th, 2010 Ross Everett No comments

The New Orleans Saints used a 14 point fourth quarter to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 on Sunday to win their first Superbowl in franchise history. Drew Brees broke open a tight game midway through the final quarter with his touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey, and Tracy Porter scored on a 74 yard interception return as the Colts were driving on the next series to secure the victory. Brees was named Superbowl MVP on the basis of his 288 yard, 2 touchdown, 0 interception performance. He completed 32 passes in the game, tying New England's Tom Brady for the all time record in that category.

After enthusiasts had come in early on the favored Colts, a good deal of buyback on the Saints had pushed the line to -4' and the New Orleans backers were enriched by their team's outright victory. The underdog has now covered three straight Superbowls and taken the money in five of the last seven games. The 48 points scored stayed well under the posted total of 57, which was the highest over/under number in Superbowl history. Five of the last six Superbowls have now played UNDER the total.

In his postgame interview, Brees gave much of the credit to the city of New Orleans:

"We play for so much more than ourselves. We played for our city. We played for the entire Gulf Coast region. We played for the entire Who Dat nation that has been behind us every step of the way. It means everything. We're here because of their strength and everything they fought through here the last few years. They've given us so much support, so we owe it all to our fans."

"Just to think of the road we've all traveled, the adversity we've all faced. It's unbelievable. I mean, are you kidding me? Four years ago, whoever thought this would be happening? Eighty-five percent of the city was under water. Most people left not knowing if New Orleans would ever come back, or if the organization would ever come back. We just all looked at one another and said, 'We're going to rebuild together. We are going to lean on each other.' That's what we've done the last four years and this is the culmination in all that belief."

Peyton Manning had little to say after the game particularly about the decisive interception return:

"Made a great play. Made a great play. Corner made a heck of a play. Certainly disappointing, very disappointing. Disappointing."

Saints' coach Sean Payton made a bold call at the beginning of the second half when he called for an onside kick. New Orleans recovered and linebacker Jonathan Casalis suggested it was a game changing play:

"We were really excited when he made the call. That changed everything."

Payton explained the unorthodox decision:

"We're going to be aggressive. We'd seen the onside kick all week and guys executed it well. It turned out to be a big change of possession."

The city of New Orleans will celebrate their team's victory with a parade. With Mardi Gras celebrations already scheduled to begin shortly thereafter, it could be quite some time before New Orleans returns to business as usual. New Orleans is usually as fabulous as flamboyant skater Johnny Weir emerging out of a gold Faberge egg, but will be even more so now.

The Highlands Of Scotland And Its History

February 19th, 2010 Matt Robson No comments

The Highlands of Scotland have been well known for their wars and betrayals and it is definitely accurate that from the reign of James IV in the 1490's existence in the Highlands was somewhat tumultuous. In 1493, James went against the strong chiefs of the MacDonald Clan and forfeited the MacDonald Lord of the Isles in favour of himself and the Campbell Clan. Thus the Campbell's took over as powerhouse at this time at the expense of the MacDonalds.

Difficulties arose not simply with the MacDonalds but also with several other Scottish clans because of this unhealthy power divide that the Campbells held over all others. The Campbell were in such a position that they could actually buy up available property and charge a kind of lease upon everyone that wished to utilize the area for cows or sheep. The MacLeans were extremely aggrieved Clan. As a sidenote here, the word Clan originates from the Gaelic word "clann" which actually means "children".

It would seem to be this could mean that any member inside a clan were closely associated however this was not necessarily the case. Only the higher echelons of a specific clan were linked to the chiefs. Everyone else merely considered the chief as the leader instead of as a relative as such.

The actual structure of clans came from a combination of early Celtic idealism and feudal procedures, the primary point being the ownership of lands. The clan chief was the master of the lands of the clan and he had the capability to grant the land out to his fellow clans men. The position of a clan however wasn't actually about the quantity of land that the family held but more with regards to how many males the clan may muster to fight in battle. As a result of Highlands being very militaristic they would be looked to for fighting men during the time of turmoil involving the King and his opposition. For the highland clans this became problematic since they often became embroiled in lowland politics.

When James VI came to be King however, civil war broke out. When he called on the clans to assist the Campbells decided otherwise. It was not just the Campbells who were to cause issues for James - he extirped (sent away) the clan MacGregor in 1603, and in 1609 he introduced new laws in to force which limited all clan chiefs from utilizing and abusing their earlier powers.
